Hypnotherapy Explained

Call  NOW on 01395 271878 to see how I may be able to help you

NO OBLIGATION CONSULTATIONS AVAILABLE

The first thing you need to know is that Hypnotherapy is 100% safe.

Scientifically proven for over 200 years and used since the times of the ancient Greeks, hypnosis combined with therapy (hence the name hypnotherapy) has been used for many physical and psychological issues. Hypnotherapy has been recognised and approved by the British Medical Association and the American Medical Association for over 50 years now.

When many people think of hypnotherapy and hypnosis the first image that springs to mind is one of stage hypnosis where members of the audience generally make a fool of themselves in public all in the name of entertainment. The stage hypnotist chooses characters who are extrovert, game for a laugh and happy to make a duck noise or bark every time they hear a telephone ring – let me assure you right now  Clinical hypnotherapy is NOTHING like this!

You see, a Hypnotherapist can’t force you to do anything you don’t really want to; hypnosis just doesn’t work like that. A Hypnotherapist is only as good as you will allow him or her to be!  Before you allow yourself to be hypnotised you have to already have made a decision that you really do want to change and it is those changes that a Hypnotherapist will suggest to your unconscious mind while you are in a hypnotic state.

With hypnosis YOU are in control all the time

Hypnotherapy is an entirely natural state of relaxed body and mind we have all experienced at one point or another. To encourage you into hypnosis the therapist uses a soothing, quiet voice to help you go into a state that really is similar to how you feel when you are day-dreaming and completely relaxed but not asleep.

When you are in this state of deep relaxation your subconscious mind becomes very receptive to the life-changing, solution-focused suggestions the Hypnotherapist gives you. Once the hypnotherapy session has ended, your ‘reprogrammed’ subconscious mind implements these suggestions so that you are able to make positive life changes and achieve the goals you’ve set yourself.

Why Is Hypnotherapy So Effective?

The mind is such a powerful tool, much more powerful than even the most advanced of computers and it has two parts; the Conscious mind and the Subconscious mind.

The conscious mind makes up only around 10% of your mind yet is the part that you are aware of most of the time. It is responsible for all your reasoning and logic.  It is also the part of your mind that reminds you of appointments, remembers telephone numbers and dates, reaches conclusions and reasons. It is also responsible for the things you do deliberately such as raising your arm or taking a sip of your coffee. Your conscious mind is your present awareness. For example by reading this, you are aware of the words on the page. What you might not be aware of is the sound of traffic passing by or birds cheeping outside or even the hum of your computer.

The conscious mind can only hold the information you are currently focusing on – it is the place of temporary memory that stores just enough for us to carry out or everyday functions. Every decision you make, from what to wear, to what to eat, to when you should go to bed, you utilize your conscious mind… and this usage represents just 10% of what your brain is capable of.

Your subconscious mind operates in a very different way to your conscious and it accounts for the other 90% of your mind.  You see, the subconscious cannot reason or question, nor can it filter out information so it takes in everything we ever think, feel, see, hear and experience and stores it our memory banks.

The subconscious mind controls all of your bodily functions; breathing, heart beating, eyes blinking, the immune system, organs, muscles, bones and tissues. The subconscious mind is also where you store your emotions, habits, beliefs and your permanent memory.

Just like a computer, your subconscious mind operates only on it’s programming, which has been created based on your life experiences to date.

During hypnosis your conscious mind is temporarily put to sleep for a while so that is can’t object to the instructions and the new information goes directly into your subconscious mind allowing you to make lasting, powerful and positive changes.
Because of this, through hypnosis, just like a computer a hypnotherapist is able to reprogram your subconscious mind to bring about the positive changes to your weight, health and life that you desire.

What Happens During A Hypnotherapy Session?

As I have already mentioned, during a hypnotherapy session you remain in control at all times and can’t be forced into hypnosis or made to do anything against your will.  You won’t be asked to divulge anything you don’t want me to know and neither will you do anything you don’t want to do or anything that goes against your moral values.

At the beginning of your first session I will  take a detailed case history to get to know you and agree on the goals you wish to achieve. I will also explain how hypnotherapy works and answer any questions you may have. Then, once you’re sitting comfortably, you will be guided into hypnosis and the new information given to your subconscious mind.

Afterwards, you will be brought back into the present gently (although you can do this yourself at any time simply by opening your eyes) and you’ll be left feeling energised and refreshed. Finally, you’ll agree on ‘homework’ or a plan of action to reinforce the therapy.

There is no real feeling in hypnosis. When you go into first hypnosis you don’t really feel anything, but when you come out, you often realise how relaxed you have been. Some people remember everything they hear during the hypnosis session, others only remember parts, but rest assured, your subconscious mind will always be able to recall whatever it’s important for you to remember.

Hypnotherapy Is Proven To Be Incredibly Effective

Hypnotherapy is a life-changing, goal-orientated therapy that offers rapid results and is probably the most powerful but under-used tool we have available to us.

From stopping smoking, weight loss, overcoming fears and phobias, relationship therapy, sports ehancement, IBS relief, motivating and training staff, improving confidence and self-esteem, overcoming stress and anxiety to a whole host of other conditions, hypnotherapy allows lasting change to be made quickly and effectively.

Hypnotherapy is the only documented  successful therapy approved by the NHS for certain conditions.
